The Launch of ‘Markets in May’
Thursday May 1, 2014 marks the exciting launch of ‘Markets in May,’ a month long celebration honoring the importance of markets in our community!
The initiave which is being driven by The Local Market Guide (www.localmarketguide.com.au) an online directory dedicated to showcasing the sensational markets surrounding our city, has been encouraging market operators to organise activities and programs such as farmer and artisan discussions, cooking demos, art exhibitions, sustainability workshops, market tours, performances and free children’s activities, alongside their regular markets.
To launch ‘Markets in May’ – The Local Market Guide is creating a free pop up market in the heart of the CBD May 1 in Martin Place at 12 midday May.
The event will feature the best of handpicked traders in quality food produce and lifestyle products from various local markets. It is a chance for the busy CBD audience to take a break and enjoy gourmet treats while interacting with the local artisans that produced them! It will also feature market style entertainment and alfresco dining!
This week we reached out to the media about the event by hand delivering these beautiful gift baskets with samples of the locally produced goods by said farmers and artisans involved in the launch (see below). Suffice to say, the goodie bags have been extremely well received!

An Unlikely Recipe for Hair
De Lorenzo Granite Super Hold Hairspray
Australian hair care brand De Lorenzo has recently launched their ‘Granite’ Super Hold Hair Spray, a non-aerosol finemist hairspray. The non-aerosol form delivers an instant, firm, anti-humidity hold allowing for more structured control when styling. Unlike aerosol cans, the non-aerosol applicator emits less product, therefore ensuring the product will last longer.
The advantage of the ‘Granite’ spray lies within its ingredients. With cinnamon oil, fig essence and basil extract, this spray utilises an unlikely combination to create a styling essential. Natural Rock Crystals are the key ingredient, as they provide texture and shine are sought and then ground together to obtain rock crystal powder. Castor oil is then used to help distribute the strong holding agents while increasing shine.

Wedding Hairstyles with Showpony
October 9th, 2013
Long and Luscious Wedding Hair by Showpony
Creating the perfect hairstyle for the big day can be tricky, especially if your hair is suffering the effects from pre-wedding day stress. A secret that top Australian hair- stylist Caterina Di Biase shares with us, is that the key to creating a beautiful ‘updo’
is lots of long, full hair! Not something we are all blessed with but Caterina advises brides to be to consider having permanent extensions put into their hair a week prior to their big day.
“This gives the bride enough time to adjust to her new fuller and longer hairstyle and means that she will be able to enjoy her new hair through her honeymoon as well. The hottest looks at the moment for brides are elegantly dishelved buns and chi- gnons, sometimes with a little detail like a braided section entertwined as we have seen on the catwalks and red carpets of late. This look is infinitely easier to recreate when you have lots of long hair to work with.” Says Caterina.
Showpony Professional permanent hair extensions can cost anywhere between $250 for 10 pieces up to $700 for a full head or 40 pieces and can be colour matched perfectly to any hair colour thanks to a unique two-tone colour strand feature.

A day at the beach
Today’s blog post calls for a small hypothetical, a meditation if you will.
As you read this, I’d like you to take a deep breath, in through your nose and out through your mouth, transporting yourself to a hot summer’s day.
Imagine yourself lounged on a towel on a beautiful secluded beach. You feel the cool touch of damp sand as your feet nestle into the sand at your feet. The rhythmic crash of the waves becomes a lulling sound that lets your mind wander without any particular direction. With your eyes closed you feel the intense sensation of being bathed in sunlight and vitamin D. As the light becomes too much you take a light scarf to cover your eyes. Constructed of 100% Indian cotton it feels weightless and soft, protecting your skin as you sink back into your daydream.
After a plunge in the ocean you feel invigorated and revived. The scent of the salt water as it dries on your skin, leaving your hair tousled and wild. You return to your towel and take a beautiful coral sarong to wrap around yourself whilst you explore the beach. As you come across a boulder you climb to the top, perched and pensive, it’s bliss.
The sunlight wanes and you return to your towel, gathering your things into your trusty tote bag that fits your every belonging. You meander back home, feeling sated, nourished and peaceful.
The beach experience is an iconic element of the Australian summer. As this magical time of the year approaches, the launch of the newest beach and pool-wear label BALLINA Accessories could not be more timely.
As the name suggests BALLINA Accessories is inspired by the sleepy beach town of Ballina in northern NSW. With its abundance of flora and fauna, designer Samrow Uppal took inspiration from her hometown and developed this simple and chic collection. With a range of scarves, sarongs and bags all marked with an iconic floral pattern, they are sure to be the perfect accessory for the sunny season.
Prices range from $29-$99 and are available for purchase online at www.ballinaaccessories.com.au

GEO
August 19th, 2013
For the beauty that lies beneath the surface
Nature has long been a source of inspiration for artists, designers and innovators alike. Be it the majesty of the ocean, the vastness or the desert or the mysticism of the forest. Jewellery designer Eleanor Ford of Sollis jewellery is no exception – as seen with her newest collection, GEO.
It is the dynamism and unique nature of minerals and rock formations that highlights a beautiful juxtaposition between the rough quality of the stone with the dazzling treasures and colours that lie beneath. As such, the GEO collection uses a mixture of chunky and fine cords along with sparkling Swarovski crystals to emulate the flowing strata in rocks and crystalline formations in geodes.
GEO combines a multitude of different bright, metallic materials to create statement jewellery that is brilliant, vivid and dazzling. Statement pieces include the Geode Statement Necklace and the Volcano Knot Necklace. The collection also reminds us that there is always more than what meets the eye!

Pretty in Pastel

Pretty in Pastel
Flitting through meadows, pondering on park benches, twirling in teacups… There’s something about pastel shades that often transports us to a younger self. And if the old adage is true and you’re as young as you feel – well sporting lacy dresses or beautiful accessories with pastel accents makes that transition all the more easy.
But don’t just take my word for it. The Spring/Summer Catwalks for 2013-4 are littered with pastel outfits, recreating the blossoming spring in our day-to-day garb.
One designer who has developed this ethos throughout her entire line is jewellery designer Naomi Murrell. Creating ‘Keepsakes for Fun Lovers’, Murrell’s newest collection Sunshine and Moonbeams celebrates pastel shades, detailed accents and fine jewellery. Milky peaches, mints, bone and coral in sorbet resin– this line is perfect for anyone looking to splash some pastel into their wardrobe.

Stressing about your formal?

Too big, too small,
too shimmery, too bland
Sisken is here to lend you a hand!
No bag lends itself more to a formal occasion than the clutch. No straps to distract from your beautiful dress and what better way to draw people to your manicure than to have a bag that makes it pop!
A lot of formal clutches, whilst beautiful, are too formal to ever be worn again. Yet if anything, street style has taught us that the clutch is good for any occasion. Now what sets Sisken apart from the rest is that these beautiful clutches are crafted from soft, hand-milled leather. A few of our favourite things
Handcrafted satchels and
Quirky white tea towels.
Beautiful t-shirts
All covered with grey owls
Colourful turbans and great statement rings,
These are a few of my favourite things!
Sure the poem needs to be read in the sing-song voice of Maria from the Sound of Music, but belt it out and you too will be swept up in the excitement of this weekend’s festivities!
The Finders Keepers Autumn/Winter Markets are back and in full flourish. No longer at Carriageworks, this year the markets will be held in Sydney at the Australian Technology Park in Eveleigh. With over 200 designers from around Australia in the realms of stationery, fashion, jewellery, homewares and children’s toys, no one will be going home empty handed.
Here’s a little sneak peek of some of the designers that are set to feature:

Bespoke Letterpress is truly from another age, using an antique cast iron letterpress to develop couture stationery, unmatched by modern-day techniques.

Eleanor Ford and Anna Pogossova Collaboration
May 6th, 2013
Keeping the Kaleidoscope Spinning
The Zari collection by Eleanor Ford is a sublime representation of ornamentation and decadence in the artistic expression of jewellery. As is signature to Eleanor’s style, these statement necklaces, woven cuffs and tassel earrings use intricate craft techniques to imbue a unique tactile quality to her pieces.
However, what has brought this collection to life is Ford’s collaboration with artist and photographer Anna Pogossova. Anna Pogossova’s credentials speak for themselves, having photographed for Chanel, Hermés and Prada. The Zari collection was shot in a kaleidoscopic fashion, transforming the jewellery literally, into a work of art.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide
April 24th, 2013
Publissimo’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide
“Hoping that blessings may brighten your way,
Wishing you happiness day after day,
Trusting your heart will be filled with good cheer,
And loving you tenderly, Mother my dear”
Mother’s Day is fast approaching and with it the stress of finding that perfect gift for a very special someone. To ease this process, we’ve put together a gift guide for the fashion forward, yummy mummies of the world who deserve to be spoiled!
Perhaps the most iconic staple of a mother’s wardrobe is her trusty tote bag. So what better way to get Mum what she really wants (and needs!), than buying her a Sisken tote bag. The Sisken range is made of quality milled leather, therefore whilst they are stylish they are also sure to last. The lining fabrics of each bag are handcrafted signature designs, making each bag a unique and beautiful accessory.
Not one to be behind with the times, gifting your Mum with a beautiful statement necklace is sure to be a hit. Zari, the newest collection by Sollis jewellery has a vast array of intricate necklaces that represent an indulgence in ornamentation and colour. Inspired by brocade weaving, tribal jewellery and lavish interior furnishings, these necklaces are created with intricate and talented craftsmanship.
If the extravagance of the Zari collection does not quite suit your mother’s tastes, Naomi Murrell presents the solution. Calling upon us all to appreciate the simpler pleasures in life, Naomi Murrell’s jewellery is fine and elegant, complementing the understated dresser.
As Mother’s Day approaches, the temperature drops and we settle into the autumn months. It’s the time of monochrome colours and cable knit sweaters, but that doesn’t mean it has to be. The Gin Rhapsody scarf is the perfect way to inject colour into the drabber months. A limited edition within the New Punjab Trading Co. range, this scarf is made with digital prints on 100% Indian silk. The scarves are handcrafted in small villages in India, therefore no two scarves are the same. This makes the scarf the perfect, unique gift.
For the restless Mum or the perennial decorator, the Neon Gypsy range of cushions are an ideal present. Statement cushions are an inexpensive way to transform a room and are also an “out of the box” gift idea. Like the Gin Rhapsody Scarf these cushions are a part of the New Punjab Trading Co. lifestyle label and are therefore handcrafted in India. A Taste of India
April 18th, 2013
A Taste of India
Rich in Indian heritage but removed from the overplayed Bollywood theme is The New Punjab Trading Co.’s latest collection offerings, Bombay Bohéme and Jaunt to Jaipur.
Drawing from her cultural discoveries on a recent trip to India, designer Cheri Flewell-Smith shares that her motivation behind the collections is to “design for the cultural bowerbird who likes to collect wares from all over the world.”
With a range of rustic, brightly coloured scarves infusing authenticity and heritage into the Bombay Bohéme collection, it’s clear the designs reflect the unique and eclectic culture of India.
With bright turquoises, burnt oranges and neon yellows woven throughout the designs, the collection embodies the sense of liveliness and community so true to Indian culture.
Moving away from industrialised mass production, the silk and cotton-blended scarves are hand made on traditional handlooms in India. A true sense of individuality and rarity is woven into each piece, with local Indian craftsmen dedicating days to create each scarf.

Beauty is on the tip of your lip.
April 4th, 2013
Beauty is on the tip of your lip.
You step outside, the crisp autumn wind whipping against your face and instinctively, you reach for your lip balm. As your hand fumbles around in your handbag (and you silently curse the Olsen twins for bringing back the “this-almost-resembles-the-size-of-my-apartment” bag) you make the unforgiving yet all too common mistake of going for the lip lick.
Yes, the lip lick. While many deny doing it – and some go as far as swearing they’ve never heard of it – it’s a common technique used by the modern day woman to save herself the time and energy of trying to find something to shield her lips. Whether we’re just running down to the bus stop or jetting out to get the last sandwich from the corner café, we tell ourselves it’ll be fine – we’re right to lick and go.
But here is where the problem begins. And it’s usually followed by unsightly consequences, including dry, cracked skin around the lips and a red, bee-stung appearance (and I’m not talking in the good Samantha Harris / Angelina Jolie kind of way).
So what’s a troubled, chapped-lip girl to do?!
Well, she can hop online or sprint down to her closest salon and treat her poor, neglected lips to a little tender loving care, with emerginC’s newest offering: In Lips we Trust.
In Lips we Trust is a nourishing, soothing lip balm that promises to protect lips from free radical damage and the harsh effects of the environment. Astaxanthin (yes it’s a real word and no, after several failed attempts, I’m still not even remotely close to pronouncing it correctly) is a powerful antioxidant that helps to reduce inflammation and increase moisture retention for soft, smooth lips. And boy does it pack a punch! In fact, it packs 550 more punches than vitamin E, and 6000 more than vitamin C – so it’s safe to say that it’s the Rocky Balboa on the skincare world.
But the benefits don’t stop there ladies. With coenzyme Q10 working as a vitamin-rich super antioxidant to soothe lips and activate healthy cellular activity and coconut oil injecting rich vitamins and fatty oils into the skin to alleviate any dry, flaky symptoms, In Lips we Trust is a truly innovative staple to your make-up bag.
Natural oils like sweet orange and sweet almond not only sound like a treat, but work like one too! By containing antioxidant properties, they work to calm and soothe the delicate skin tissue, while also forming a protective layer over the surface of the lip to lock in moisture and perfect your pout.
And the best part of it all? In Lips we Trust comes in a beautiful, bright green tube which means you’ll never have to lip lick again, no matter how Olsen-esque your bag is!

Midnight Glamour
April 3rd, 2013
A seasonal change is in the (h)air
We have been undeniably blessed with a pseudo summer this autumn. However, as the colder months settle in, the knitwear comes out and our scarves, gloves and tailored jackets come to the fore. While we trade bright splashes of colour for a muted colour palette, it becomes time for your hair to make the adjustment as well.
De Lorenzo has released the jewel in their colour care crown, their Autumn Colour Collection for 2013, Midnight Glamour. This collection celebrates rich, sultry tones with fusions of vibrant colour blocks to
add a touch of glamour and flair.
Midnight Glamour creates glorious shine with hues to suit any colour or base level. It also remains the only professional colour range on the market today that is manufactured in Australia specifically for our climate and conditions.
What’s more, De Lorenzo products use fair-trade, organic ingredients, are cruelty free and contain no parabens nor petrochemicals and are 100% Australian made and owned. So that when you’re FALL-ing (puns galore!) in love with this autumn range you can do so with a settled conscience.
Midnight Glamour is available exclusively at salons, for information on stockists call 1800 800 347.
Well OIL be damned!
April 2nd, 2013
Well oil be damned!
In a world where we are religiously combing Moroccan oil through our hair and using coconut oil to cook just about anything, oil can seem all the rage.
However, if there is one place where it’s not so eagerly celebrated, it’s on our face. Cue the constant trips to the supermarket to stock up on oil-blotting tissues, or the sneaky swipe of the powder brush at your desk.
It’s inconvenient, annoying and lets face it – not too pretty to look at.
However, the folks at emerginC seem to have heard (and answered!) our oily prayers, with the redeveloped Complexion Control promising to mattify more than ever.
Newly reformulated with willow bark and alpaflor, the lightweight, hydrating emulsion balances and protects skin, restoring it with a healthy and natural glow.
With its résumé boasting the ability to improve oil and blemish control, as well as reduce the appearance of large pores, it’s clearly perfect for the job of rectifying over-oily, unruly skin.
Champion ingredient Willow Bark is proving to be a real heavy weight contender in the skin stakes, with its ability to calmly improve the skin and provide results in a soothing, sustainable way, making it unrivalled on the market.
Newly added ingredient Alpaflor also helps to create balanced skin by reducing sebum production levels, allowing the skin to return to the perfect level of oil production needed for glowing, healthy skin.
Complexion Control can also be used as the perfect base for make-up by working to extend the amount of coverage time provided for the skin.
Finders Keepers Autumn/Winter Markets Melbourne
March 27th, 2013
The markets are coming to town
In yonder years, the marketplace was turned upside down,
on those magical days when the emporium came to town.
With trinkets and knick-knacks and tapestries galore –
the emporium showed us objects we’d never seen before.
The magic of those days is unfortunately diluted by the urban sprawl of today’s cities. The concept of a marketplace is difficult to recreate because the “centre of activity” is too broad to define. We’re spoilt for choice. For all our shopping needs we visit department stores, malls or browse through streets of smaller fashion stores.
However, the Finders Keepers have sought to bring back the creativity and romanticism of the travelling emporium. Their bi-annual event, the Finders Keepers Markets, showcase the wares of over 200 designers from the realms of fashion, jewellery, stationery, homewares and children’s toys, all together under one roof. With a dynamic design scene in Australia, these markets bring together the creativity of emergent and seasoned designers and for a gold coin donation, they are open for all to enjoy.
The upcoming Finders Keepers Autumn/Winter Markets are returning to the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne from Friday 5th April to Saturday 6th April 2013. In a brand new feature, the markets will be hosting debut stalls where 12 new designers will be able to lay out their fresh, new designs whilst a select few feature stalls will allow seasoned designers to create pop up stores for the occasion.
With a great line-up of independent Australian musicians, a smorgasbord of food stalls and a wide variety of designers, these markets are sure to be a treat!

The New Punjab Trading Co. Media Launch
March 25th, 2013
It’s “chai time” we have a High Tea
with a little Indian flavour.
Be it the authentic twangs of the sitar player or the spicy aroma of chai tea pervading throughout the room, the media launch of the New Punjab Trading Company on Thursday 14th March was not your average media event. Terrible puns excused, the high tea brought a touch of the Orient to the day of all those who attended, and was a sensorial adventure in more ways than one.
The New Punjab Trading Co. is an online lifestyle label that brings authentic Indian homewares, jewellery and fashion accessories into your modern home. Attendees were invited to see a kaleidoscope of oriental scarves known as Bombay Bohème, feel the contrasting textures of a range of cushions called a Jaunt to Jaipur and be inspired by the eclectic High Noon collection of necklaces, cuffs and earrings.
Designer Cheri Flewell-Smith told her own story of how her Indian heritage has always remained close to her heart and ultimately inspired the creation of this lifestyle label. Her grandfather, Teja Singh migrated from India when he was 18 and worked as a cane cutter on the east coast of Australia, eventually settling down on a dairy farm in Ballina, which the family still owns today. Cheri has travelled back to her grandfather’s homeland, travelling all around India from Jaipur to Rajasthan to Punjab, where she works alongside the craftsmen who produce her collections.
Those who were able to make it didn’t leave empty-handed either. To remember the event and to bring a touch of the collection home with them, journalists were given a small goodie bag which included amongst other trinkets, a necklace from the collection as well as chai tea leaves – a miracle worker when craving that little respite from the stress
and deadlines.
All in all it was wonderful to see everyone come together for an event, a little out of the ordinary, that ultimately left us all with food for thought and that touch of inspiration.
The website was launched today and is well worth a visit: www.thenewpunjab.com
An Ode to O
March 21st, 2013
An Ode to O
The Winery in Surry Hills transformed into a laboratory yesterday (sans the unflattering white science coats), as beauty editors and bloggers alike flocked to learn about O Cosmedics’ new groundbreaking range, O Biotics.
With a refreshingly cool breeze heralding the onset of Autumn, guests were tucked away into the Gracelands Room to experience a new era of anti ageing skincare. The King (and his quirky shrine) gracefully bowed out and made room for O Cosmedics to be the decorative focal point of discussion. Touches of O Cosmedics’ signature red hue complimented the space, which was adorned with candles and products from the new range.
Light chatter filled the air as guests milled around and enjoyed their morning coffee fix, before being seated and welcomed by O Cosmedics founder, Marie Cocciolone. Marie shared her vision for the new range, which includes providing the modern-day woman with a real, authentic solution to ageing skin. Her solution not merely nourishes skin, but works at a cellular level to mimic the natural biochemistry of the skin.
“The world has changed and the industry has changed – and O Cosmedics is embracing this,” she explained. “It’s an ageing population, so it’s imperative to talk to the cells when the skin is not listening.”
And “talk to the cells” is exactly what O Biotics does, with Marie providing expert industry insight into the transformative powers of cosmedical-grade skincare.
“Cosmedical is a new category designed to use medical-grade active ingredients that make a significant skin difference. We’re using 10% of an active, as opposed to cosmetics using 0.1%. There are a number of products on the market to slow down the natural ageing process of the skin, however O Biotics not only slows it down, but restores your skin – on a cellular level – to what it was when you were younger.”
And in true, technology-savvy style, editors and bloggers swiftly took to their smart phones and tablets to take notes during the presentation and share the groundbreaking insights with the social media world, with status updates and tweets flying through cyberspace at record speed.
Following Marie’s presentation, leading ingredient expert Michael Hill was welcomed to the stage to provide the scientific process behind the products. With delicate cucumber sandwiches and rich creme’ brulee a reach away, guests remained energised during Michael’s breakdown of the scientific genius behind the O Biotics range.
With more peptides than you can poke a test tube at, Michael explained that O Cosmedics was “leaps and bounds” ahead of any other product available on the market, because of its unique approach to addressing the cause at a cellular level.
“There has been a number of attempts to address the skin ageing process. It is absolutely true that you will overcome at least one problem of the process, however you won’t address the root cause. I applaud O Cosmedics in taking the foreground for regenerative skincare technology,” he said.
And while good things come in small packages, truly ingenious things come in state of the art packages. O Biotics is no exception to this rule, with Marie providing a showcase of O Biotics’ unique delivery and application system, unrivalled by anything else on the market.
Marie delivered a show and tell style presentation of the ampoule application system, sharing the sterile, travel-friendly and no-wastage benefits of the system with the guests.
The event concluded with a question and answer discussion, followed by happy snaps and farewells. With goodie bags in hand and a new wealth of knowledge at the ready, guests left feeling O so happy!

Sisken piece
February 20th, 2013
A dedication to my handbag.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
My friend showed you off,
So I bought you too.
Women around the world can attest to the importance of a great handbag. It speaks (and in many cases, carries) volumes. But the search for this perfect handbag is not an easy one.
In 2008, Kristy Ackerman was working as a graphic designer in Melbourne, searching for the ideal business satchel. It had to be good quality, make a statement and be that perfect size. We’ve all been there before. When Kristy found the pool of options to be lacking she became proactive and created her own collection of bags – and so Sisken was born.
Each Sisken piece has been carefully handmade with high quality, genuine, soft milling leather and finished with a unique, screen-printed cotton lining. The range includes an array of styles including handbags, purses, clutches, laptop bags and overnight bags in a variety of colours.
For work, travel or pleasure… there is a stylish Sisken bag to suit everyone.
Prices range from $29-$420 and can be purchased online at www.sisken.com.au or from your nearest stockist.
Grammy’s Fashion Rundown
February 11th, 2013
Barely there.
A glance at the red carpet at the 55th Grammy Awards would suggest that this year the event was certainly a classier affair. The CBS Standards and Practices Committee sent a Wardrobe Advisory email, advising attendees to cover up: no “thong type clothing”, also “bare sides or under curvature of the breasts are problematic” and certainly no “exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack”. There are those who may have taken this advice with a grain of salt, flaunting in their own way, but the dresses seen on the red carpet were clearly celebrating the female form.
Jennifer Lopez took to the stage in a black off-the-shoulder dress by Anthony Vaccarello that left one leg bare all the way to her upper thigh to present the award for Best Solo Performance, joking to the audience in saying she had “read the memo”.
Rihanna has come full circle, in returning to a softer look at this year’s Grammy Awards. The image of elegance, with a gauzy sleeveless Azzedine Alaia dress that upon closer inspection, highlights her curves to perfection.
Taylor Swift revealed her female form, very sneakily in a classic Grecian style J Mendel gown. Her plunging front was securely fastened by bejewelled straps so as to avoid any “unadvised” cleavage, whilst the backless dress was adorned with cross over straps at the back so as not to show any “side boob”. In short, well played Taylor.
Kelly Rowlands, of Destiny’s Child fame certainly rocked the boat in her va va voom Georges Chakra dress, with carefully placed geometric mesh cut outs along her sides and front. In an interview on the red carpet with Giuliana from E! about her dress she meekly protested, “But I followed the rules!”. We’ll let you decide how well she did.
Natasha Bedingfield proves that there was certainly a pattern on the red carpet this year. Wearing a beautiful red Emerson dress, with cut outs alongside her waist, she made a very feminine picture. The Wardrobe Advisory may have put their foot down, but clearly the stars were going to continue marching to the beat of their own drums.

ACP and Pacific Publications Showings – 13.08.12
September 4th, 2012
‘THE SHOW MUST GO ON’ – ACP & PAC PUBS SHOWINGS
This week we headed to ACP and Pac Pubs to showcase some of our talented designers’ brand spanking new collections.
In one –on – one meetings with fashion editors we revealed Naomi Murrells stunning handcrafted silver and brass jewellery line titled ‘Keepsakes for Fun Lovers’. Its inspiration draws from themes of hope, happiness and the simple pleasures of life, which seemed to strike a chord with everyone that attended.
Next they were introduced to Sollis’s new ‘Dahlia’ pieces. Eleanor Ford’s new collection reflects the colourful landscapes of India, and mirrors the meticulous architecture and nature of this exotic land. On the unveiling of Eleanor’s neckpieces, bracelets, cuffs and earrings, the editors were enthralled by the macramé technique which now incorporate Swarovski beading and gold plated detailing.
Finally we showcased Melbourne based handmade leather accessories label ‘Sisken’ whose handbags, wallets, purses, laptop bags and overnight bags are woven from high quality milling leather, and finished with an original, screen-printed cotton lining. Available in all the fashionable colours, it seemed that the season’s most popular pick amongst the editors was vibrant green.
With lots of products being called into the fashion offices we are sure the showings were a complete success!

CALLING ALL SPOTTED COWS
Attention one and all, I have found my inner cow, in the new ‘Decadent Delights’ range from Spotted Cow Cookies!
Now, before you take this the wrong way, hear me out – these dessert style cookies are at the upper echelon of cookies and are sure to get your taste buds buzzing and your mouth watering. Recently launched in four charming flavours including Pistachio and Chocolate, Lemon Tart, Sticky Date and Caramel and Chocolate and Salted Caramel these live up to their name and a fit for a royal cow 😉
A self confessed chocolate addict, I must confess my sins and let you know that the Chocolate and Salted Caramel made from quality Couverture chocolate was to DIE for! In the wee hours of the morning after my return from a night out on the town, I may or may not have consumed one of these delightful cookies complimented with a cup of green tea. It’s true when they say it was ‘love at first bite’. Soft, dense and rich, filled with chocolaty goodness, a truly delectable experience! Do yourself a favour and get your hands on some. $2.70 – $3.80 a cookie, is a small price to pay for this regal temptation

De Lorenzo – Getting Back To Nature

De Lorenzo – Getting Back To Nature
Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Go Planet! Captain Planet’s on vacation, but De Lorenzo’s Elements – natural Australian style range is to the rescue.
Inspired by Australian nature and inhibiting all natural organic certified plant based ingredients; these products will leave your hair feeling fresh and fabulous with each use.
Water’s Ocean Mist is my secret weapon. Blessed with wavy and curly brown hair thanks to my European heritage, means on an average day, the less I do to it the better. So what could be more perfect than a salt infused spray that provides texture as well as definition. Three sprays all over, some light handed scrunching and voilà my hair immediately goes from shaggy dog to beach goddess. At $23.95 a pop, I say why not!
My second best friend is Air’s Sand Storm, a dust sculpting spray that provides texture and added fullness. I love volume, my favorite saying is ‘the bigger the better’, so with little time and patience to stand around in the morning styling my hair with rollers everywhere and blow drying brushes, for $22.95, being a quick, easy and effective product, Sand Storm is right up my alley!

More stars love emerginC, what’s not to love really?
The beautiful Kirsten Dunst and Petra Nemcova are amongst a number of starlets choosing cosmeceutical brand emerginC as their choice of skincare to keep their skin looking youthful and radiant.
A highly effective and results driven range, emerginC is made from pure and potent botanicals and fruit acids, combined with cutting edge medical and cosmeceutical-grade ingredients sourced from all over the world.
Always at the forefront of new skincare technologies emerginC were one of the first to market with StayC 50, CO Q10, Alpha lipoic’s, Peptides, Stem Cells and Active Organics, and are continuously improving on formulas with relevant skincare technologies that push the bar.
And its no surprise that environmentally aware Kirsten (who chooses to drive a hybrid car) would support a brand whose commitment to the environment within the skincare industry cannot be surpassed.
Just a few of their environmental initiatives include:
- No testing on animals or use animal ingredients in their products.
- Orders are all packed with biodegradable packing ‘peanuts,’and all shipments are made via UPS via their carbon neutral shipment service.
- emerginC plants an indigenous tree, in non-harvest locations, for every retail sized Scientific Organic product sold. At last count they had planted 30,000 trees!
- All product boxes are printed on Forest Stewardship Council and Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified paperboard, and printed with non-toxic vegetable-based inks. They are also a proud compact signer at safecosmetics.org.
- Shopping bags are made from biodegradable ‘stone paper’.
- They are members of the carbonfund.org and to date have offset 29.2 Tons of CO2 emissions.
And their proudest initiative yet says owner and CEO, Ian Lirenman “Our offices have been running on 100% wind power for years, but we are proud to announce that approximately 80% of emerginC items will now be manufactured using wind power as well.”

Mum’s know best!
fred&frank mothers network
fred&frank have come up with a great new way to let mums work and keep their social life intact with their new distribution model called the ‘mums network’. Not only does this allows the entrepreneur in them to let loose and create their own successful designer childrens clothing business but to also keep and build relationships with other mums a part of the network.
The fred&frank Mums Network idea was created when founder Deryll Naidoo’s wife wanted to still work after the birth of their first child. Deryll & Mark Lowth (founding partner) quickly harnessed their joint passion for creativity and poured this into the fred&frank range, which they then started selling to other mums through word of mouth. Since then, the mother’s network quickly grew to 30 mums and the number continues to climb.
The ‘mum2mum’ model supports mums who are searching for freedom and flexibility that a traditional workplace can’t provide. Any member of the fred&frank Mums Network can sell fred&frank designer wear to their own network of friends, family, parent/kids groups and their local community at their convenience. The best part is that, for those who are still unsure of how to start and make their business successful, ‘Queen Mums’ are also available for mentoring and on going training.

Face of Man
September 28th, 2011
FACE OF MAN LAUNCHES ITS NEW 1940’s INSPIRED MENS ONLY GROOMING LOUNGE
How many places off the top of your head can you think of, that focus only on mens grooming? Exactly. Not many. There are so many salons for women but what about men? The only male exclusive destination in Australia, they have been the leader in male grooming for over 30 years. They understand the pressures of the modern man.
‘Face of Man’, a Men’s Only Grooming Lounge, proudly servicing the beauty needs of men in Sydney since 1978, has re-located to the central CBD location of Walton House Level 10, 300 George Street Sydney.
The new home is reminiscent of a 1940’s ‘Cigar Room’ sprinkled with the era’s furnishings, antiques and theming. Capturing the old world charm with state of art skincare technologies the new residence features a professional concierge desk, a waiting room with a drinks menu including alcohol and chocolates, two breakout rooms for changing and recollecting one’s thoughts, showers, an Infra- Red Sauna and seven treatment rooms. It’s a men’s grooming experience unlike any seen before in Sydney.
The Lounge, which was designed by Jeremy Bull and Kelvin Ho from pre-eminent fashion architectural firm Akin Creative, saw them moving away from their usual contemporary architectural palette into a more vintage and old world inspired one. Kylie Hayden, owner of Face of Man asked them to create a haven that was aesthetically pleasing to males “where clients would be free to be men, not fathers, sons, husbands, bosses or employees. Where their only responsibility is to let go and enjoy their own time.” Says Kylie.
Along with the new look, ‘Face of Man’ has already added new state of the art equipments and deluxe treatments to their already impressive portfolio of treatments. These include Hot Stone Therapy, Colon Hydrotherapy, an Infra-Red Sauna, Ionic Foot detox baths, LED enhancements to treatments and a full range of specialist massages.

O Cosmedics Skincare Launch
September 8th, 2011
O What a Day!
O Cosmedics launches to a packed house
of Sydney’s finest Beauty Editors!
Spring was definitely in the air last week on the launch day of Australia’s newest and freshest skincare range O Cosmedics.
As the weather warmed and the streets were filled with people enjoying the beautiful floral window display at DJ’s, Sydney’s finest Beauty Editors were gathering at the Strand Arcade for the launch of an exciting new and luxurious skincare range with serious results- O Cosmedics.
Hosted at the beautiful La Rosa in the Strand Arcade 35 of the top Beauty Editors from publications such as Cleo, Cosmo, Harpers Bazaar, Grazia, Bella, Famous, SMH, Body & Soul, Famous, Primped, G Magazine, Beauty Directory, Professional Beauty, A Younger You and Instyle Hair to name a few were welcomed by Marie Cocciolone founder of O Cosmedics and Australia’s leading expert in skincare and her talented and passionate team of skincare specialists who happily mingled with guests.
As guests sipped on their hibiscus flower flavoured Prosecco’s they were served a selection of Italian Hors d’oeuvre’s including Salumi Misti di Casa, Crocchette di Patate, Calamari Fritti con Olive and an assortment of pizze before being ushered into the theaterette styled area to start the presentation.
The room which was filled with the brand’s signature hue of red was the perfect setting for a brand that Marie considers to be a little out of the norm from conventional skincare products on the market. “I want my brand’s personality to shine through in everything from the packaging to our quirky slogans.” And the personality of the brand was evident for everyone to see as Marie took to the stage for what was to be an informative and engaging presentation on the direction of skincare globally and how O Cosmedics is at the cusp of high definition skincare.
As Marie took to the stage it was evident to everyone that here was a woman that certainly knows what she is talking about! You could hear a pin drop as Marie talked about the motivation behind the brand and what it stands for- timeless and ageless beauty and skincare that promotes and delivers flawless skin at any age.
She talked about the 5 effects of ageing and how her potent and medical grade ingredients addressed each of these issues and more often than not actually reversed the long term effects of years of damage from the particularly harsh Australian climate.
Marie defined Cosmedical, a relatively new term in Australian skincare marketplace which brings together medical grade actives and cosmetic science, and how these ingredients have the ability to target not only present and past skin damage, but also provide the skin with an element of prevention for the future. She talked about how O’s Chiral and encapsulation technology further enhances these actives, enabling the deepest delivery result possible whilst still keeping the range Organic where possible and free of parabens, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances, colour and no SLS orchemical fragrances.
Marie spoke about her impressive list of multi-faceted ingredients within the range and proudly paused on the crowning glory; a worldwide exclusive peptide called the V8 Peptide Complex™ which she included in all the O products (excluding the pure C + BHA powder). This special peptide works from behind the scenes on the essential cell structure to age proof the skin and accelerate healing and rejuvenation.
As guests rushed to take down notes Marie paused to stress one important point “O Cosmedics skincare will bring on a physiological change with real tangible results designed specifically for Australian skin- It’s the perfect weapon against sun damage and ageing without having to go under the knife” And by the end of her speech, Marie had everyone in the room believing it!
Guests were treated to Goodie Bags containing O SPF 30+ Mineral Pro, Gentle Antioxidant Cleanser and cranberry scented Exfoliating Cleanser and made there where down to the Beauty Bar where they received one on one consultations with the Inskin’s fine BDM’s.
As the event came to a close, and the sun went down on a beautiful Spring day our guests armed with new information, amazing products and handy new expert to draw skincare advice from Marie Cocciolone, left singing O’s praises!

A ‘Project Dance’ flashmob of 200+ dancers appeared at the steps of Sydney Town Hall yesterday to pay homage to Lady Gaga and rehearse a Guinness Book of World Record attempt for the largest number of people singing and dancing to Lady Gagas hit track ‘Born The Way’.
Although the official world record attmpt will be made in September at The Australian Dance Festival the performers ranging between the ages of 4-25 hope to surprise Lady Gaga with the spectacle!
The festivals patron Jason Coleman thought ‘Born This Way’ was a fitting way to celebrate Lady Gaga’s arrival into Sydney for her Monster Tour and to promote The Australian Dance Festival‘s charity ‘The Butterfly Foundation’ as the song praises the diversity, and loving the body you were born with.
The 200+ ‘little monsters’ definatley caught the attention of Sydney being featured on Sunrise, The Morning Show, Channel 10 news and on the Daily Telegraph and 2dayfm website.

Croquembouche Masterclass at Patisse
We FINALLY decided to try out Patisse’s infamous cooking classes on Tuesday evening! we walked in bright eyed and bushy tailed keen to learn ‘The Art of Pastry’ from none other than pastry chef Vincent Gadan.
Croquembouche consists of making choux pastry and piping 50 choux balls. You then make the creme patissiere and fill each ball. Then the tedious task of dipping each ball into VERY hot caramel toffee without burning your fingertips! Then the assembly of the tower and finished off with you own decoration.
Vincent is very charismatic and likeable and made the whole cooking experience easy and enjoyable
Patisse were very hospitable and we thank them very much for giving us the opportunity to create our own croquembouche
Patisse run lots of different classes including Souffle, Macaron, French Classics, High Tea and many more you can find the full schedule on the website, we definitely recommend you try it out!

EmerginC

Have you heard of a lightweight eye serum that specifically targets fine lines, crows feet and sagging skin? I have! its called Vitamin C Serum Eye By EmerginC. When you get to a certain age you look in the mirror and think wow gee look at those lines, don’t they age my face maybe i should invest in some botox!
Well my friends, im here to tell you to go against the botox unless you want to end up looking like THIS…
Well you might not look like this after one treatment, but Nicole (scary botox face) Kidman is a good example of way too much botox and how stiff and bat like you can look after countless botox injecting. My point is you don’t want to look like this… or end up ADDICTED, broke and having to attend botox anonymous once a week.
If you have a few lines and wrinkles here and there (i like to call it character) the best treatment is an eye serum! We recommend the Vitamin C Serum Eye by EmerginC to combat those fine lines & wrinkles and guess what? you will still be able to move your face!! woo hoo!

Folklands
July 5th, 2011
Introducing you to the newest and coolest tee brand to hit the market Folklands, the brainchild of Sydney based artist and hipster John Papagianopoulos. John started the label simply as a means to release creative energy and after some convincing from his friends decided to take the plunge into the design world. and luckily for us he did!
Folklands debut collection is inspired by Tribal/Aztec designs and is titled ‘Speed Of Life’.
John’s frustration at the abundance of mass produced, screen printed tees that are in your face 24/7 is what pushed him to start Folklands and bring the love back into the humble T-shirt. Every Folklands Tee is handmade, hand drawn and designed by John himself and is limited to only 111 prints. John explains “The end creation is a unique garment, never truly identical to the other”.
Every Tee is made to order and all you have to do is visit the site, place your order, have a cup of tea and in no time your very own custom made Folklands will be at your doorstep.. or in your mail box.. or at the post office..
So where can you get find a hand drawn piece of art on a shirt for under $100? Folklands i tell ya!

Vincent Gadan, Vive La France!
It’s a very exciting week for Patisse as Executive Chef Vincent Gadan appears on the small screen three nights this week! Vincent who appeared last night in the MasterChef Immunity challenge, will also appear on SBS food safari on Thursday night and will finish off the week with a special Dessert Masterclass on Masterchef.
Last night in the Masterchef Immunity challenge, Vincent beat audience favourite Hayden Quinn in a nail biting finish. Vincent who is a classically trained Pastry chef was placed totally out of his comfort zone when asked to create the perfect Pork Roast.
“My life’s work has been Pastry and to be asked to participate in an Immunity Challenge cooking a meal was the biggest professional challenge i have faced to date. I loved the adrenalin rush and the MasterChef experience, however my passion will always be pastry” says Vincent
On Friday night Vincent gets the opportunity to show the MasterChef audience where his real talents lie by hosting a Pastry Masterclass in the Patisse kitchen. The class will feature a ‘How To’ on making the best pastry and three delicious signature tarts.

wedding hair
June 21st, 2011
Here comes the bride…
On the weekend I was helping my friend find the ‘perfect’ hairstyle for her wedding day, after hours of trawling through thousands of same old, same old we decided to take a look at the recent red carpet trends and came accross this delightful do by Miss Reece Witherspoon. Reece has the same kind of hair as my friend (short & blonde) and seeing as she’s going with a 1940’s style we thought this would be perfect. Down, natural and elegantly undone!
You only have to look at Kate Middleton’s hair at her ROYAL wedding to know that yes, ladies, Down is the new UP!
Kate chose to have very relaxed, soft ‘romantic’ curls with her hair down because she wanted to look like HERSELF and of course she wanted Wills to recognise her! Isn’t that what your wedding day should be about? Feeling comfortable in your own skin & of course looking like yourself not some overdone fake bridezilla! Just because it’s your wedding day you don’t have to wear your hair up.. dare to be different.
And if you’re getting married you should totally visit this up coming wedding market if you’re after something different and not mainstream then this is for you, the market sets itself apart from others by offering the bride non traditional creative wedding options that are not the bland mass market options you may find at the commercial wedding fairs.
The event is from August 13th- 14th at Byron Kennedy Hall, Moore Park

THE GODDARD OF FILM
The thing we love most about working at Publissimo has to be some of the talented creatives we get to work with on a daily basis. People like Director Alex Goddard. A Vitamin A Day Keeps The Botox Away!
EmerginC Multi Vitamin + Retinol Serum
Apparently you don’t need to use a serum until you’re 26 years old, Heck I’m 23 next week and there’s nothing wrong with starting early.
Having youthful wrinkle free skin is VERY important. It means instead of spending thousands of dollars on botox when you’re 50 you can go on a tropical holiday with your loved one – as long as you pack the sunscreen! Proper skin care can delay the natural aging process and may prevent skin problems in the future. Protecting your skin from the sun, not smoking and using a good quality skincare are 3 easy ways to have beautiful youthful skin!
So that’s where EmerginC multi vitamin & retinol serum comes into play. Just like you should take a multi-vitamin daily for health & wellbeing you should do the same for your skin. This super serum fights free radical damage, contains an antioxidant and helps increase cellular turnover. It also strengthens skin, can diminish the appearance of broken capillaries, hydrates, improves tone & texture and soothes skin. Wow that’s a lot of good things all in one little bottle – It’s one of the most comprehensive multi-vitamin serums available with airtight active ingredient encapsulation.
Results:
You only need 1-2 pumps to cover your whole face and neck as it is quite concentrated. The texture is great its not oily and very lightweight on the skin, It goes on smooth and gives the skin a very glowing effect – I can actually feel it already working my skin! Can’t wait to see the long term results!
PRODUCT: Multi-Vitamin + Retinol Serum

DL EXTINGUISH
May 23rd, 2011
O.M.G my hair is on FIRE!
EXTINGUISH
Think about how many times your hair is prone to heat? i can think of many… hot water in the shower, heat from the sun when outdoors, blow drying hair, using heated styling tools like straighteners, curlers or hot rollers, we can use heat from 80 degrees up to 200 degrees on our little hair strands!
Let’s face it, we all know heat damages hair – it dries it out and causes all types of damage like split ends causing us to have fizzy, rough, dead hair and eventually the hair can fall out. ouch!
Using a thermal protection spray such as Extinguish is designed to minimise damage and stress to the hair when using hot appliances to straighten or curl. Extinguish is a unique product that not only protects your strands but helps smooth and control unruly hair. It can protect your hair from heat up to 240 degrees C.
What’s in it? Made from Australian Desert Raisin that protects the hair from photo-oxidation and provides added sheen. Goji berry which adds 19 amino acids which are the building blocks of protein and vitamins B, E and C. And Lycopene a naturally occuring anti-oxident thats found in desert raisins that boost nutritional qualities and preserve the freshness and vitality of the hair.
Directions are very simple: Spray onto hair before applying heat!
I feel good knowing I’m PROTECTING my hair against heat damage, just as you would protect your skin from sun damage.

Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2011
May 4th, 2011
Fall in love with Lover
To mark the return of Lovers comeback after a 5 year no show at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, the polished label closed Day 1 of RAFW at the Sydney Opera House Studio.
The White Serpent, Lover’s 2011/2012 SS collection draws inspiration from Chinese mythology, the collection brought to life the beauty of romance “tempered by tragedy”.
Lace took centre-stage in a seductive way and is a trend to watch this season. Lover has perfected it with their French lace and leather in hues of red, white and black that were effortlessly styled with sharp tailoring. Delicate dresses, and long sheer gowns teamed with statement shoes and a bold red lip toughened up the looks on the runway.
Trends at RAFW:
So far, seen at every show this week Lace has been the predominant trend. Used throughout most of Lover’s collection, Therese Rawsthorne and Zimmermann also used lace in their shows.
Lover, Therese Rawsthorne and Manning Cartell presented sheer in their collections along with with floaty materials and thigh-high hems.
Sharp suiting and Bright Colors are popular amongst Alex Perry, Zimmermann, Therese Rawsthorne and Karla.
Sea Swirl

Recreate 1940’s glamour!
SEA SWELL
Last night I decided to play around with a new DL elements product before going out, my theme was GLAM so i wanted a very glamorous, easy, hairstyle that looked refined but as though I only spent a few minutes creating. My choice was Sea Swell, a medium hold Volumising lotion that provides natural style control and anti humidity action = ANTI FRIZZ very important for this look! The formula in the product expands the hair to add fullness and great shine with airless weight. Perfecto!
To create this look I squeezed about a 20c peice amount of product onto the palm of my hand and applied it to my wet hair evenly, I scrunched it up and left it to dry naturally. The product gave my hair a slight glamorous 1940’s wave to it, I then swept my hair to one side and tied the bottom section of my hair in a pony at the nape of my neck and just left the top half of my hair to fall naturally to one side, I then secured with hair pins. Voila!
I found the product to be very light and not sticky at all, contains frangipani essential oil, sunflower seed cake and sea kelp as well as certified organic SEAWEED! It has a hold factor of 4 and a shine factor of 6…
